How the closed technique reached Dr. Kanodia, in order.

  1. Dr. Jacques Joseph, Berlin, 1865 to 1934.A founder of modern cosmetic rhinoplasty and author of books still counted among the milestones of plastic surgery. His methods passed through the surgeons he trained to Dr. Howard Diamond.
  2. Dr. Morey Parkes, Los Angeles.Trained by Dr. Howard Diamond. The best-known rhinoplasty surgeon in Los Angeles from the 1960s to the 1980s, he ran a one-year rhinoplasty fellowship sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and took one surgeon a year.
  3. Dr. Eugene Tardy, Chicago.Dr. Kanodia finished his residency under Dr. Tardy in 1979. Tardy was one of the great rhinoplasty teachers of his generation and the author of standard rhinoplasty textbooks.
  4. 1979: the last fellowship.More than 50 young surgeons came to Los Angeles to compete for Dr. Parkes’s final fellowship. Dr. Kanodia was invited back for the second day and won the place in the operating room, on his suturing.
  5. Beside Parkes and Sheen.After the fellowship year, Dr. Kanodia joined the practice and worked alongside Dr. Parkes and Dr. Jack Sheen for four more years, then took the practice over.
  6. Beverly Hills, since 1981.More than 15,000 closed rhinoplasties over 45 years, all first-time noses, all through incisions inside the nose.

In a closed rhinoplasty every incision is made inside the nostrils. An open rhinoplasty adds an incision across the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils, and lifts the skin off the nose to reach the structures underneath.

Dr. Kanodia performs primary rhinoplasty only, and only through the closed approach. The practice does not take revision cases.

Scarless nose surgery is closed rhinoplasty: every incision is made inside the nostrils. Open rhinoplasty adds an incision across the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils.

There are incisions, but they are inside the nose, so nothing heals on the skin. There is no scar anyone can see.
